Test Results
Depending on the type of test, results can take up to two working days. A GP will review your results and either the GP or a receptionist may contact you. If you have not been contacted by the surgery within 4 working days and want to confirm your results, please call the surgery after 2pm or submit a contact form.
If it has been confirmed with yourself that your results were abnormal, a follow up discussion or a repeat test may be arranged. Please note that receptionists are not clinically qualified to discuss your results with you in detail. The following information may help your understanding:
- Normal/Satisfactory – This means the clinician has looked at the results and deemed them to be within the normal range for the test or very close to the normal range for the test. Some patients have consistently abnormal results that are ‘normal’ for them. No further action is required.
- Clinician is happy to wait until medication review – This means that the clinician has looked at the results and would like to discuss this with you at your next medication review. This is not urgent and can wait until you would normally see the clinician.
- Abnormal – Urgent appointment required. This means the clinician has seen the results and a clinician would like to see you urgently to discuss.
- Abnormal – Routine appointment required. This means the clinician has seen the results and would like to see you for a routine appointment.
It is important for patients to take personal responsibility to find out their test results and make a follow up appointment with the relevant clinician if it is required.
If you would like to request a printed copy of your results, please contact the surgery in writing. This can be done by email to enquiries.probussurgery@nhs.net or you can submit a contact form.
If you have registered for online services some results are visible on the NHS app and on SystmOnline.
